The Story: “It’s about adventure”
Why does one play videogames?
Is it relaxation? Is it about winning? Beating your opponents? Is it to relieve aggression?
Why do I love it? I asked this from myself one day and I think the answer for me is this:
I want to be thrown into a world I know nothing about. And then I want to explore it, learn it, live it. It’s not about winning or loosing and it’s not about clearing my head.
It’s about adventure.
And then I thought that maybe I could be the one that can offer this adventure to someone else.
The Urge
I’m a 39-year-old guy.
I have a good job, relationships, hobbies – all that. Yet I have had this feeling of… lack of achievement.
If I’m being honest, I must say that my whole life I have done nothing that I can claim that is my own.
I have always loved videogames. I thought that I’ll start a Youtube channel on which I can comment on videogames. It was all good fun for a while but in the end it wasn’t enough. I mean, every other guy has a Youtube channel.
I didn’t want to be just the guy that comments on others work.
I wanted to create something that the others can comment on.
The Studio
After a few years of learning and buying some hardware, I had my set up ready.
I started Nupsu Game Studio.
(And since you nevertheless want to know about the name: Nupsu is the nickname of my Japanese Spitz)
Now I’m creating something of my own. I’m creating worlds. I’m singing the tune from Hellman’s mayonnaise commercial “I turned nothing into something!”
It has been an adventure – hard, frustrating, pain in the ass.
But damn it feels good!
The Mission
I’m also on a kind of a mission here.
When I scroll Steam and see hundreds of shitty games that people publish to make an easy buck, I get mad.
So much bad stuff and even scams are being published nowadays that many gamers get cynical. They don’t dare to grab new indie game anymore because they have gotten their hands burn with scams too often.
I’m just a regular guy but I want to show that there are still indie developers who put their back into it.
I’m doing my best. And it might not be enough. But I guarantee that when you grab one of my games you get something that I have poured my heart to.
This is also why my first games are free. Just try it out, there’s no risk (except wasting your time 😉). And if you like it – and especially if you don’t like it – let me know.
The Dream
I remember when I was a kid and played Gabriel Knight III and Blade Runner.
I still cherish the tinkling feeling when I solved the mysteries. I remember the joy when I was following a great script. I had to use my brains and skills, and no-one was holding my hand.
I loved it.
If someday I can create that feeling to you people, I would be so happy.
